Languages Without Borders

Developed by the Ministry of Education (MEC) through the Higher Education Department (Secretaria de Educação Superior SESu) together with the Higher Education Personnel Improvement Coordination (CAPES), the Languages Without Borders Program (Idiomas sem Fronteiras - IsF) aims at encouraging professors, scholars, staff and students to learn foreign languages as well as providing a comprehensive and structural change in the teaching of foreign languages in Brazilian universities.

The Program

LwB has been prepared with the objective of providing opportunities for professors, scholars, staff and students  to learn and/or improve foreign languages in order for them to be eligible for exchange programs (for undergraduate and graduate studies) through the Science without Borders program and other mobility programs with foreign  universities in countries where higher education is conducted in whole or in part through foreign languages. This program also helps the Brazilian university communities to better receive an increasing number of foreign professors and students on their campuses. To meet such demands, LwB include the provision of distance learning and classroom courses, besides the application of proficiency exams.
